I have heard and seen some criticism about using sex to sell this concept, or thinking that Nerd Girls suggests that you can’t just be smart, you have to be beautiful, too. I don’t believe this myself, and when I saw the first video about the Nerd Girls (I think the one under “watch"), I was actually really pumped about the concept! I couldn’t wait for the new site to be launched. What was your impression? Did you almost stay away because of the way the concept was presented, or did it make you come faster?

I like to run around meeting strange people. I play WoW and of course feel a need to visit my new friends, especially if they live relatively close. It never really occured to me that this type of behavior could be potentially dangerous, until someone pointed that out to me last night. So far it’s been fantastic I’ve met a lot of really nice people with whom we routinely hang out.
I’d like to think I am pretty careful especially when I’m on my own.

Things that I’d rather not have the other people at work know for fear of ruining my reputation. (Though what the reputation is I can’t exactly say.)

1) I find “Americas Next Top Model” fascinating. I take notes on how to posse better in front of cameras. (I swear I’m now less camera shy because of it.)

2) I once had to ask a lab manger to remove a device’s battery cover for me because I’d just had my nails done. I’m certain he’s never had anyone ask that question before. I’d never felt so silly-female before in my life. To his credit, he didn’t flinch.

3) Being “the girl” is kind of my pretty princess crown, and I sometimes find it a little hard to share the title. (Though that doesn’t stop me from encouraging anyone from entering into my field! I love computers and engineering! Everyone should love it!)

What are you willing to confess?

I have a total crush on the Grissom and Greggy characters on CSI (Las Vegas). I think it is because I understand the characters quirky geeky sense of humor. I like how Greggy’s character has developed into a more varied character - you see that he has a brain and a sense of humor and his own interest in pop culture.

Do any of you guys pick the geeks out of the shows and movies? I get totally teased for my prediliction by my family. lol. Luckily my fiance does not feel threatened by a fictional character!

Man, to understand himself, must know how he stands in society, for public opinion is the standard of all our acts. Now to know ourselves is to see where we, as one individual, stand to the surrounding influences that act upon us. For we are mere machines in the world to be moved and regulated by the wisdom of God or science or by the opinions of mankind. These opinions are what cause all the misery in the world; so to know ourselves is to know science which proves all things. I will show where every man ought to stand and to show more clearly where I am, I must take the two extremes of man’s belief. The first is the religious belief of another world. This class embraces all those who are affected by it and all false ideas based on phenomena that cannot be explained. Many of these ideas purport to come from the dead or are opinions; so it takes in all the superstitious who bow down and worship this belief. If a man believes that his power comes from another world, then all who embrace this belief are ready to acknowledge the standard. This standard of the priests had its full sway in early ages when the priests cured all diseases. At last opposition arose, as in all humbugs, and a more learned class of humbugs sprang up who led the more sober part of the people. They admitted the religious error and made a still more religious belief. So you may trace the grand scheme of humbugs from Judaism down to the present day. When new phenomena appear that affect one, they also affect the other. Just keep the two before your eyes. You will find the same reform as it is called in these two humbugs.
