I like to think of myself as a triple threat; in no specific order, beauty, brains, and braun. By day, I’m an engineer for a global manufacturing company, two nights a week, I teach statistics at one of the local universities (’Oh my! Why would you do that?! You must be smart!’). I work in manufacturing, where the male to female ratio is around 50:1, at least. I’m 5’8”, part Irish, part Native American, thin, and still in very good shape after completing my 10 years of swimming with 4 years at an NCAA Div I school. I like football, baseball, and basketball. I run, I swim, and I bike. I’m just a few years out of college (BSIE, MBA, 7 years of school done in 5). At work I’m treated as though I’m either a daughter, or a mannequin. When people ask what I do for a living, I have trouble finding words the ‘average Joe’ might possibly understand. When I say I’m an engineer, the looks are priceless. You wouldn’t think so in this day, but hey, we still have a long way to go. I’m typically not as arrogant as I sound here, but it’s empowering being associated with other women in the same boat! |
