Bio

It all started with a science kit I inherited from my
three older brothers.  They were teenagers when I was
born, so all their toys were positively ancient by the
time they got to me.  The kit was from the 1960s and
included this giant preserved locust, which the boys
had never bothered to dissect.  I can still smell the
formaldehyde.  Then came the fervent copying of
encyclopedia entries, word for word.  I loved doing
that more than I loved watching “Mr. Wizard’s World.”
Which is to say, a LOT.

Two spelling bee championships, a ninth-grade “Most
Intellectual” title and three school newspaper gigs
later (Andrea Zuckerman, watch your back), I’ve come
to grips with my addiction to words.  A recovering
English major, I’ve established a career in public
relations for government programs and non-profit
organizations.  My coolest professional experience to
date: volunteering with the NASA public affairs team
in the days leading up to the Return to Flight shuttle
launch in 2005.

I may not do quantum physics for fun, but perfecting a
long-range integrated marketing communications plan is
my idea of a good time.  I have a lingering
fascination with forensic pathology yet am not an
aspiring medical examiner or serial killer.  I’ve yet
to let a contact lens touch my precious eyeballs and
have been rocking glasses since the sixth grade.  If
my handwriting is less than perfect on a Post-it note,
even if it’s just to remind me to buy dog food, I’ll
throw it out and start over.  Eco-friendly, it’s not.
But still, I challenge you to find a bigger geek than
I.

Some of my influences: Audrey Hepburn’s style and
substance.  e.e. cummings’ staunch refusal to
capitalize anything.  Everything Judy Blume ever
wrote.  Jennifer Garner’s abs.

I love blogging for nerdgirls.com and feel fortunate to be able to highlight some of the world’s cooler ladies who reiterate the point that “smart is sexy, geek is chic and brains are beautiful.” I hope everybody else enjoys this site as much as my friends and I do.
