Reuse. . .using good materials. . .

I own a 100 year old home which I adore! After 100 years, it is standing with less then 1/8th of an inch settling. Sometimes sustainability requires more time and better materials. I am pro-purchasing old houses and restoring them using as many good materials as possible. (The neighbors balked when I opted to replace all the missing pipes with copper instead of plastic! )

I would be interested in how other nerd girls are reusing as a source of design and sustainability!

Water shortage

Recently in Victoria, a connection that taps into the water of the New South Wales was made. So now the environment in the New South Wales suffers so we have more water for our ecosystem? Wrong, now our ecosystem continues to suffer as water restrictions are slowly being lifted. I personally, am angered by the lack of imagination when it comes to water conservation.
If the taps where fitted with indicators of water temprature and the indicators could be operated so optimal tempratured water were to come from the taps in showers, kitchens, hoses etc. Millions of litres could be saved and water percentages might eventually reach 40% full in Victoria’s Damns.
I know it isn’t the most ideal solution, but it is more creative than anything our water minister has thought of since election.
Who else has some ideas on water sustainability? That is, not taking water from another ecosystem, but increasing water naturally in pre-exisiting ecosystems.

Here is a link on the topic, general non biased. http://www.greenlivingpedia.org/North_South_pipeline

Carbon Offset Search Engine?

I was on twitter the other day, and discovered Regoog - environmentally friendly searching, basically the same as Google, but they say they offset the carbon use of all their users, and that the technology they use uses a lot less energy than Google.
I happened to read up on how much energy Google actually uses, and it would blow your mind, so this Regoog Google seems like a great idea, and I suggest everyone add them as their homepage, instructions in their homepage.

It’s good to know if everyone uses this it would save the earth a lot of energy, from such a simple idea.
