I don’t know if anyone’s really commented on this..but that channel G4/Tech TV really has a thing about making people think that girl nerds simply don’t exist. As if the ones that play video games are only doing it for attention as an insincere gesture.

so, the nerd girls article on newsweek said, “Today’s girl geeks are members of the first generation to have been truly reared on technology. They grew up on gender-neutral movies like “Hackers” and “The Matrix.”

okay not to be picky but how is The Matrix gender neutral? that movie is cool, but from a gender standpoint it drives me NUTS! Trinity kicked 100% ass in the first scene of the first movie, but it was straight downhill from there. by the end of the film she was reduced to a helpless outsider, who could only help the desperate situation by LOVING A MAN. give me a break.

watch for it girls! there’s movies and shows all over the place that have females who are kick ass part of the time, but take a back seat whenever the hero man enters the room. oh, or they fall in love. you know, you totally can’t be a strong woman once you’re in love, right?

Sometimes Leslie Winkle (played by Sarah Gilbert) makes a guest appearance.
Do any of you identify with her? Do any of you identify with the neighbor Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco) who put together a tractor engine when she was 12?

whats the problem with having a diffrent religion. people exclude and make fun of people of a diffrent religion. it is not our buisness what other people belive. so we should stop discriminating and just ecsept.

Favorite nerd girls in movies/tv/books

My absolute favorite nerd girl is Anne Shirley. I also like Susan Calvin from I, Robot (the character from the book, definitely not the movie). In the television spectrum, Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica gets high marks. I have a fondness for Peggy Olsen from Mad Men as well, although I don’t think she’s a true “nerd girl” yet (but may be by the end of the series).

Palin: Friend or Foe?

I would like to ask, in the spirit of the election, what this community thinks about McCains VP pick; is she a role model or bad example? How does she weigh out vs. Hillary Clinton’s campaign? What do and don’t you like about her and most importantly, do you think she is helping break the stereotype of a woman by running for VP, or is she reinforcing the stereotype with her family-values being a heavy campaign focus?

With the question asked, I’ll start the discussion off with a little of my opinion in the form of this link.

I’m very interested to see what you all think though.
