Hello Everyone:

I’ve been in the IT field for about 17 years.  I’ve done everything from desktop tech, HD analyst, Notes Developer, Wintel Server engineer, Novell server engineer to my current role as a midrange manager.  I manage the wintel, unix, backup, storage, operations and mainframe environments for a large defense contractor.  I would love to hear from other woman who are in the IT field as well as those considering IT for a career.

My primary hobby is Astronomy.  I’m also looking for fellow astronomers out there.  I’m considering creating a woman in astronomy organization and I’m trying to see what interest there is out there.  Give me a shout.

Encourage other woman out there to join here and at other such orgs.  I would also suggest there be a page of links to special interest webpages.

Welcome. :) I would join your astronomy group, though I know almost nothing about it.  It was a big fascination of mine when I was a child, but when I had to choose my science course in college, I let someone discourage me from it.  I was told that there was a lot of math involved, and though I don’t understand now what the problem with that was, at the time I thought I was not good at math.  That has always been one of the big regrets of my life, and more so now that I finally live in a place that has actual stars in the sky.  What part of the sky interests you the most?

I have a background in Astronomy, but haven’t used it much recently. Have you ever listed to Astronomy Cast? It’s a great podcast by Dr. Pamela Gay and Fraser Cain. Pamela has a great knack for making complex subjects understandable.

Welcome! I visit the local observatories every now and again:) I kind of get turned off rather quickly, as light wash upsets me.
