Does anyone watch The Big Bang Theory on CBS?  If not, catch some episodes Mon. nights or on cbs.com . I love the show!
Sometimes Leslie Winkle (played by Sarah Gilbert) makes a guest appearance.
Do any of you identify with her?  Do any of you identify with the neighbor Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco) who put together a tractor engine when she was 12?

I don’t catch this show enough to know the characters. However, one episode I watched made me crack up. The girl across the hall was building a bookshelf and the guys decided to help. But they also thought that it could use some modifications. Next thing you know it’s a total experiment for them and she is just standing there putting together the bookshelf just fine on her own.  I am sure we have all felt that way somethimes - on both sides of the equation!

Yeah that was Penny.  She said at one point something about taking her clothes off and the guys were so busy planning to use aircraft grade aluminum they didn’t even look up.  While they were busy, she put the entertainment center together.

Oh, this is funny. :) I’ve never actually seen the show, but your conversation reminded me about when I was finally independent enough to move into my first apartment alone, then shortly thereafter, when I bought my very own cordless drill.  Is there anything more empowering than to be able to put up your own shelves without asking for help?  Btw, most women do just fine with only two tools: a piece of string and a butter knife.

Leslie actually kind of annoys me… if she’s supposed to be the girl nerd stereotype then I can see why guys run away from us sometimes. They brought in that hot scientist guy that hooked up with Penny… its about time they bring in the hot scientist girl. There are plenty of us out there, we should have a part in nerd comedy :)

I actually identify with Leonard moreso than Leslie or Penny. I think of myself as the semi-normal nerd: I revel in my nerdiness, and yet still manage to have more than adequate social skills. :D (As opposed to my dear friend Rebecca, who is almost exactly a female version of Sheldon.)

I am said Rebecca. I relate very closely to Sheldon (although I’m extremely impaired in my social interactions). As a matter of fact, I’m a bit of an emulation of Sheldon: same tics, same style of speech, same academic interests, and so forth. Then again, I tend to relate to boys better than girls. I haven’t observed Leslie too closely, but I don’t think that she embraces the “nerdette” stereotype in a positive way. As for Penny, she’s more “nerdy by association” than downright nerdy, although she is definitely intelligent.

love the show. I don’t think I can relate to any one character in particular, but as a whole, I totally do. The nerd thing comes so naturally to me :P My boyfriend’s the biggest nerd I know so I find them very endearing and lovely. I’d totally “do” Sheldon though HAHA!
