no really, I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately about this.  not how powerfully drawn we are to buy new shoes or whatever, but how our clothes can generate *renewable* energy that we could use to, say, recharge batteries and cell phones.

there are already solar cells being used in bags and bike accessories.  from what I’ve read they work great at the beach!  haven’t tried one yet (they’re a bit pricey) but i’ll let you know when I do.

and the news this year is all about piezoelectric fibers… composite materials that rub together and create energy whenever you move!

what do you think, are you excited about the idea of just plugging your phone into your shirt?  do you have other ideas about we’ll get out of the union of technology and stuff we wear?

I think this is cool.  I saw an article a couple of weeks ago about capture the energy from dancing and using it charge something like a cell phone.

I really like the idea of pulling power from alternate sources, so I love when people get creative about this.

When I was in 9th grade (1994) I bought this Beavis & Butthead shirt that had wires sewn into the tshirt with the plastic graphic covering it and a 9-volt battery pack on the underside of the shirt that plugged into the wires. When you pressed certain spots on the shirt a different Beavis and Butthead sound-byte played. Needless to say, I was the class clown the day I wore it to exams and it went off when I moved just right.

I would be concerned about having so much energy quite so close to me without knowing the impact it could have on our own biological electric patterns.  Anyone in the biology field want to weight in?
