Kathryne Jansen's parents encouraged her to pursue a traditional career path. Like many parents, they wanted her to go to college, get a degree, and go off to work in a field with job security, good pay, and solid benefits. She tried this, applying to Berry, a private university in north Georgia, and earning a scholarship for early childhood development and education. But she never went. Jansen woke up one morning toward the end of her senior year in high school and just had a feeling. She knew she had to go to California.
